2026: State of the SimWorld

May 07, 2026 - Important News—SimWorld Domain Transition
Important News—SimWorld Domain Transition

Internally this news had been on the wall for SimWorld at the SimWorld GameVision Broadcast Center studio since September 1st, 2024…however, it is time for some real discussion, and to bring you what is coming.  A major change is coming for SimWorld’s online home this fall.  Beginning Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 all of the content produced for SimWorldthis includes the website, the SimWorld Legacy Story will officially move to a new online home marking the next step in the brand’s long-term evolution.

In 2024, we have tipped the hat to our partners at Endurance International Group and informed them SimWorld’s domain will be set to expire on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 with no intentions of renewing our contract.

With that said, the consolidation will bring everything involving SimWorld under a new online home at www.NathanielJackson.com, the parent company of SimWorld LTD to Nathaniel Jackson Productions, LLC.  To make this transition seamless as possible for everyone around, starting on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026 you will be able to access the content seen on SimWorld’s current and expiring home of www.TheSimWorld.com as it will be synchronized to its new home at www.NathanielJackson.com as well.

Loyal Simmers from the SimWorld GameVision days and newfound readers for the SimWorld Legacy Story are encouraged to update their bookmarks at their convenience with additional reminders wherever you look from publishing within the issue, the front page videos, being reminded by Frodo and me on the Neighborhood server and even to our SimWorld Insiders.

This consolidation signals a new chapter for SimWorld, one that is centered on bringing years of storytelling, community, and creative work together under a new digital roof for Nathaniel Jackson Productions while honoring the legacy of SimWorld both on-air and in print with the SimWorld Legacy Story and supporters who helped build it over the past seventeen years.

March 23, 2026 - Maxis Update Chaos Halts SimWorld Production as Marketplace Backlash Intensifies
Maxis Update Chaos Halts SimWorld Production as Marketplace Backlash Intensifies

Unofficially, this marks the sixth update shared with our Neighborhood server on Discord. Given the scale of what has unfolded, along with the extended delay, it stands as our first formal report within SimWorld’s News Center.

For those who may not have followed along on Discord, the situation began last week, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
That day, the development team behind The Sims, Maxis, introduced what they called The Marketplace, an initiative intended to bring custom content creators, official kits, and players into a shared ecosystem. The response was immediate and largely negative. Critics, players, and creators voiced concern, and as of today, at least one contracted creator has withdrawn entirely in light of the controversy. At the same time, Maxis released an extensive “laundry list” update, centered on changes to simulation automation affecting both played households and non-played characters. Updates impacting game modification files are not unusual; however, this release extended far beyond that scope. It disrupted custom content across the board. Players throughout SimNation reported that both mods and custom content failed to load, effectively breaking large portions of the game experience.

The following day, Wednesday, March 18, Maxis deployed what was described as a small hotfix. It restored functionality for an estimated 65 percent of custom content and mod files. Even so, many developers were left scrambling to revise their work in response to the March 17 update. Compounding the issue, new problems emerged. Additional custom content ceased to load, core gameplay systems became unresponsive, and widespread reports of black loading screens left players unable to meaningfully interact with the game.

By the weekend, much of the player base had little choice but to step away. Maxis indicated on Friday that its engineering teams would continue working through the issues, with a goal of delivering a more complete fix by Monday, March 23.

At 11:14 a.m. Pacific, 1:14 p.m. Central, the Maxis development team confirmed that a new hotfix had been rolled out, one intended to restore playability and address the damage caused by the March 17 update.
For SimWorld, this moment arrives during what would have been the fifth day of Phase One production for Issue 4 of the SimWorld Legacy Story. The reality, however, looks very different. Production has not begun. The scale of the disruption has made that impossible, and SimWorld has not been immune to the broader instability affecting the game.
As a result, we will wait until Wednesday, March 25, or Thursday, March 26, before beginning production on Issue 4. While production itself has been delayed, work has continued behind the scenes. Preparations for the launch of SimWorld Insider, scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, are actively underway. Due to this ongoing work, a video update reflecting the revised timeline will not be produced at this time.

Looking ahead, Issue 4 will be available to SimWorld Insiders through Early Access on Thursday, April 9, with general release following on Tuesday, April 14. Further scheduling adjustments are still in progress; however, Issue 5 is currently set to begin production on Friday, April 17.

It is not often that I offer personal commentary, but in this case it feels warranted. The introduction of The Marketplace should have been approached with far greater care, if at all. Many players and creators believe the decision reflects a shift away from supporting the community in favor of monetization. That perception alone carries weight. Additionally, updates of this magnitude require time and restraint. A minimum of four weeks between major “laundry list” updates would allow both developers and the community to stabilize. The delays we have experienced illustrate how disruptive rapid, large-scale changes can be, not only for players, but for creators and projects like SimWorld that depend on a stable foundation.

March 12, 2026 - SimWorld Legacy Story Design Changes & Preview of the SimWorld Insider
SimWorld Legacy Story Design Changes & Preview of the SimWorld Insider

As your games guru, I have always believed you deserve to know when SimWorld evolves, and why.  With today’s release of the SimWorld Legacy Story, Issue 3, that evolution becomes visible on the page itself.  The first change is physical.  For months, the Legacy Story embraced the bold scale of a traditional tabloid, printed at 11 by 17 inches.  Beginning with this issue, the dimensions shift.  The width remains familiar, but the height is reduced to 14.57 inches.  The adjustment may feel subtle in the hand, yet it signals a far larger step forward.  SimWorld has entered into a formal agreement with a publisher that will produce limited edition printings on recycled newspaper.  To meet the technical demands of that press, the Legacy Story had to adapt its format.  This agreement reaches backward as well as forward.  The first and second issues were carefully redeveloped from the ground up to align with the publisher’s standards.  Those revisions apply only to the print editions.  The original online versions remain untouched, preserved exactly as readers first experienced them.

These design changes arrive alongside the return of something many of you have asked about.  As outlined in December 2025 in the State of the SimWorld address, the SimWorld Insider program will relaunch on Patreon.  The restart comes with one limitation.  Patreon does not yet allow the return of annual billing for the restart right now.  That option may come later, and when it does, you will hear about it directly.

When the Insider reopens on April 1, it will offer three tiers, each designed to bring readers closer to the creative process, plus an opportunity for you to own something in your hands to remember the SimWorld Legacy Story.

The Bronze tier, priced at four dollars per month, offers early access to each Legacy Story issue, arriving five days before public release.  Members will also receive Behind the Access posts, which include unused screenshots and personal narrative reflections that reveal how each story takes shape.  The Insider relaunch will begin with Issue 4, though questions about the first three issues will be welcome in comments and on Discord.  There, in the rebuilt SimWorld Neighborhood, Frodo will once again serve as moderator, restoring a familiar presence from earlier days.

The Silver tier, at ten dollars per month, builds on that foundation.  In addition to Bronze benefits, members will gain access to occasional SimWorld Live broadcasts from the SimWorld GameVision Broadcast Center, a revival still in development.  Silver members will also be recognized in the SimWorld Insider Registry, a public acknowledgment on the website honoring those who sustain the project.

At the Gold tier, priced at twenty dollars per month, readers step directly into the creative world itself.  These members will receive quarterly opportunities to name fictional, family friendly characters who may appear in the Legacy Story.  Some may even find their creations reflected in screenshots.  Gold members will also gain access to the Insider Stage on Discord, a private monthly session lasting up to ninety minutes.  There, in a live setting, they can ask questions about the stories, the history of SimWorld GameVision, or the life behind the screen.  Their support will also be marked with the Golden Plumbbob Award, announced publicly in the next State of the SimWorld and recorded in the Insider Registry.

Beyond subscriptions, a rare opportunity will be offered to dedicated readers and supporters alike.  For eighty-five dollars, a limited number of special event print editions will be available for preorder.  These editions will be printed only when ten to twenty orders are secured, and delivery may take up to one month due to production and shipping timelines.  This offering will be limited to readers within the United States.  Each copy will include a handwritten note of thanks, a personal gesture in a digital age.

In the weeks ahead, work will focus on preparing the Discord Neighborhood and completing the Insider relaunch.  On April 1, the Bronze through Gold tiers will open.  If preorder demand is met, the first print run will be placed in July.  The inaugural issue and the Jail Week issue are currently under consideration as the first special event editions.

Finally, SimWorld was never meant to stand still.  It was built to grow, to adapt, and to endure.  This moment marks another step in that long unfolding story, one shaped not only by the worlds created on screen, but by the readers who chose to believe in them.

January 31, 2026 - SimWorld Legacy Story Debuts Inaugural Issue and Prepares for Major Game Updates
SimWorld Legacy Story Debuts Inaugural Issue and Prepares for Major Game Updates

With only hours left in the month, timed to follow the Maxis Development team’s early January laundry list update, SimWorld’s inaugural issue of SimWorld Legacy Story is officially live.

Alongside today’s release, readers will also find a one-minute audio digest, created for those who want a quick preview of what the issue explores before settling in for the full story. It is a small addition, but an intentional one, designed to meet the community where they are and offer a doorway into the larger narrative.

Over the next few days, attention will turn to another pressing matter: the upcoming 1.58 rollout for American Truck Simulator. The update is expected to impact several game modifications I have released, and time is being set aside to manage those changes and stabilize compatibility.

Looking ahead, the calendar brings another pivot point. After the first of the month, when the next Sims laundry list arrives and The Sims 4 releases its final expansion pack, Royalty & Legacy, a decision will be made about the timeline for Issue 2. The current target remains Monday, February 23rd, but that date may shift depending on how these updates unfold. The community will be informed directly through the Discord Neighborhood once that determination is made.

At the same time, I will also be evaluating whether Royalty & Legacy will be folded into the ongoing gameplay of SimWorld Legacy Story, a choice that could shape the direction of the narrative moving forward.

For now, the inaugural issue stands as the opening chapter, the beginning of a long-form experiment in storytelling, simulation, and shared imagination.

January 10, 2026 - What You Need to Know: Future of The Sims
What You Need to Know: Future of The Sims

Earlier today, the team at Maxis offered a measured reassurance to the community that has grown alongside The Sims for more than two decades.  At the core of that message was a clear promise, the franchise was built on single-player life simulation, and that foundation is not going anywhere.  The announcement, however, arrived with a note of finality.  Maxis confirmed that the last expansion pack for the current generation of The Sims will launch in February under the title Royalty & Legacy. More details are expected on Thursday, January 15th.  For longtime players, the news lands as both a celebration and a farewell, marking the end of a chapter that has defined countless virtual lives for The Sims 4.

Even so, the studio emphasized that this is not an ending in the traditional sense.  The development team will continue to deliver new content and updates, signaling an ongoing commitment to support the game beyond its final expansion.

Addressing growing questions about the future, Maxis clarified the direction of Project Rene, often discussed by fans as The Sims 5.  The project has evolved into a social, collaborative life simulation designed with mobile platforms in mind.  The team was careful to note that this experience will differ significantly from previous iterations of the franchise, setting expectations for something new rather than a direct continuation of the familiar formula.

In closing, Maxis returned to the values it says have always defined The Sims. At the heart of the franchise, the studio reaffirmed its commitment to creativity, play, choice, inclusivity, diversity, and community.  For a series built on self-expression and shared stories, the message was unmistakable, even as the future takes a different shape, the spirit of The Sims remains intact.

January 06, 2026 - First Issue for SimWorld Legacy Story Delayed for Laundry List Update

Earlier this afternoon, our colleagues at Maxis Development Studios in Redwood Shores shared a brief but important update.  A new Laundry List patch is now expected to arrive on Tuesday, January 13th, a shift that has set off a necessary ripple effect behind the scenes.

Today had been reserved as the official starting line for production on our first issue, which was originally scheduled to publish on Thursday, January 22nd.  That plan, however, hinged on the timing of this update.  With part of the release now delayed, SimWorld Legacy Story’s debut issue has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 31st.

The reason is both practical and essential.  Once the Laundry List update goes live, I must thoroughly evaluate its impact on game modification files before any meaningful production can continue.  Until that assessment is complete, we are in a brief holding pattern, one dictated by caution rather than hesitation.

Still, the pause is expected to be short.  If the modification files check out as anticipated, production on the first issue should begin no later than Saturday, January 17th.  From there, the path forward becomes clear.  This adjustment allows us to move ahead with confidence, ensuring that when SimWorld Legacy Story returns, it does so with stability, accuracy, and the level of care our readers expect.
